Venezuela’s Business Environment: Inefficiencies, Distortions, and Risks

Venezuela is constantly over the news given its unprecedented economic collapse. Yet, numerous people still think that the country’s economic hardships were caused by external factors, such as declining oil prices or financial sanctions from the international community. When in reality, the Venezuelan collapse is the direct consequence of the country’s inefficient, distorted, and hostile business environment.

The Staggering Inequality of Venezuela

In developed nations people tend to discuss the political economy of their countries in the following way. When they think about capitalism, they associate it with economic freedom, and therefore, with higher opportunities to climb the socio-economic ladder.

Statement from Students For Liberty CEO Dr. Wolf von Laer on Covid-19

Crises are times in which the voice of liberty, our voice, is tested. Right now, we have to curtail some of our freedoms in order to avoid spreading a virus that moves as quickly as we are. We cannot forget that liberty has to come with responsibility if we want to make it viable and attractive.

Therefore, I am proud to see that our community and the liberty movement, in general, has stepped up and taken steps to start working remotely, to limit their interactions with people, and to implement best practices during these trying times.
